For years, the AEA has been working to recruit and promote the avionics trades through outreach and education. Now, the AEA enters the next phase by developing and promoting apprenticeship programs for both avionics technicians and aircraft mechanics that meet the regulatory requirements. The United States Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration, Office of Apprenticeship recently approved the avionics technician apprenticeship program that was created by the AEA and submitted through its partnership with the Urban Institute. The apprenticeship program offers a competency-based occupational framework that meets industry standards.
