You should know...

Not every city is the same when it comes to COVID-19 protocols and guidelines. When the 2022 AEA Convention arrives in New Orleans, there are currently some differences you should know about as you book your hotel and make your convention registration. This site will be updated as necessary when federal and local guidelines change, so check this site often. The AEA appreciates the cooperation of all convention attendees and exhibitors as we adapt to local guidance. We look forward to a safe and successful show!

Is there a mask requirement?

As of Jan. 12, 2022, the City of New Orleans is under an indoor mask mandate. Masks are required in all indoor spaces. As a result, masks will be required at the AEA International Convention & Trade Show inside the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

Is there a vaccine requirement?

Currently, there is no proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test requirement to enter the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. However, please note that the City of New Orleans requires proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours to access indoor dining, indoor fitness, and indoor entertainment spaces or performance spaces throughout the city; this City of New Orleans mandate will apply to the AEA First-Nighter Event on Monday, March 28.

Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 1, everyone age 5 years or older will be required to show proof of two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, except for those who have received one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, OR a negative PCR, molecular, or antigen test within 72 hours at restaurants, bars, and other businesses. Proof of vaccination or a negative antigen or PCR COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours before entry (must include the individual’s name, date of the test, and results clearly visible on an official report) is required at all indoor gatherings at establishments included in these requirements.

At-home tests are NOT acceptable. Please note: You will have to retest every 72 hours. Click here for the latest on where you can get tested. Two locations are offering same-day PCR test results: Urgent Care and Gulf Coast Labs.

Where you will NOT need to be vaccinated or show proof of negative COVID-19 test:

  • AEA Exhibit Hall and lobbies at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
  • All AEA training classrooms and general sessions at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

Where you WILL need to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test:

  • AEA Convention First-Nighter Event at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
  • Bars, including hotel bars.
  • Restaurants (both free-standing and in hotels).
  • Gyms, including hotel gyms.
  • Event spaces such as hotel ballrooms, events venues and reception halls with food and beverage.

What can you expect while dining in a restaurant

Restaurants are allowed to operate at 100% capacity. While planning to dine in at a New Orleans restaurant, you are encouraged to make a reservation in advance. Please note that you will be asked to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result within 72 hours of entry.

Transportation

As you make your travel arrangements, please note there currently is a federal face mask requirement for all transportation networks throughout the United States, including public transportation (i.e. airports, commercial aircraft, shuttle buses, etc.), through March 18, 2022.  (see U.S. Department of Transportation)
