SUMMARY:
The Australian government's Civil Aviation Safety Authority regulatory requirements for the first step in the transition to satellite technology for aircraft navigation and surveillance is approaching. The compliance date is Dec. 12, 2013, less than 20 weeks away, for the ADS-B equipment fitment mandate for aircraft flying in the upper airspace at and above FL290.
Airlines and other operators of turbojet aircraft have had five years notice to comply with this mandate. After Dec. 12, 2013, unequipped aircraft will not be permitted to operate at or above FL290.
The Aircraft Electronics Association supports this mandate and encourages its members to offer solutions to operators with aircraft not yet fitted with complying ADS-B equipment.
