Avionics Technician / Installer

Bison Aviation is seeking a well-qualified avionics installation technician to join our rapidly growing Part 145 repair station at the Boerne Stage Airfield near San Antonio, TX. The Avionics Systems Installer must (under minimal supervision) troubleshoot, remove, and install avionics, electrical components, and avionics related structures, fabricate wire harnesses, installations, and terminations, and perform configuration, ring-out, and functional tests of avionics and electrical systems.

Perform installations, modifications and integration of advanced avionics systems and associated equipment in accordance with installation manuals blueprints, worksheets, and engineering drawings.

Analyze equipment documentation and produce functional interconnect diagrams for projects.

Fabricate wiring harnesses and coaxial cable assemblies according to manuals and drawings.

Complete assigned tasks within allotted time frame.

Maintain required logs and records to include documenting the approved data for which the work was performed.

Install, program, update and troubleshoot radio communication and navigation systems, GPS navigation systems, flight and engine instruments, inverters and flight control systems, using hand tools, multi-meters and soldering irons.

Must be able to build, terminate and route wire harnesses in accordance with AC43.13 and manufacturers supplied data where applicable.

Lay out installation of aircraft assemblies and systems, following documentation such as blueprints, manuals, and wiring diagrams.

Properly care for and maintain the shop, equipment, and tools as assigned.

Adhere to all Bison Aviation company policies, safety guidelines, and code of ethical conduct.

In adhering to company polices, all employees are subject to random drug and alcohol tests.

This position is also subject to random drug and alcohol testing under DOT and FAA regulations.

Any and all other duties assigned by the supervisor.


MANDATORY - Background working in general aviation aircraft maintenance / avionics facility (Part 145 preferred).

MANDATORY - Strong familiarity with general aviation aircraft (piston singles & twins, turboprops, light jets).

MANDATORY - Strong familiarity with equipment from major avionics manufacturers (Garmin, Avidyne, Aspen, Dynon, BendixKing, etc).

High school diploma or equivalent.

FAA A&P certificate (preferred).

AET certification (preferred).

General knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements.

Minimum 3 years’ experience in avionics installation and integration (preferred).

Proficient in reading data design drawings and manufacturers installation manuals.

Must be able to read, write and understand the English language.

Ability to bend, lift, and work in tight spaces.

Knowledge of the use of avionics test sets and equipment is preferred.

Acceptable background check for required matters.

Lawful US Persons as defined in 22CFR 120.15.


Normal work day is 8 hours Monday thru Friday.

Work overtime hours when required.

Travel to other locations on occasion.

Perform work in a sometimes noisy environment.

Bending, squatting, sitting, working from ladders, lifting (up to 50 lbs.).
