Aircraft Electronics Association President Paula Derks met with Michael Huerta, Federal Aviation Administration Administrator, on May 13 to share safety initiatives along with other trade associations. The primary purpose of the meeting was to reconfirm affirmation of the continued commitment to general aviation safety by all parties, and the recognition of the improvement and the industry's dedication in the past and continued future efforts.
Following the meeting, Huerta issued an open letter to the entire general aviation community. The letter was issued May 23 and urged all general aviation pilots, mechanics, aircraft owners, fixed base operators and passengers to make a personal commitment to ensuring safety as the summer flying season begins.
