Position Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Avionics Installation Technician to join our Avionics team. This is a hands-on role involving the installation, wiring, testing, and troubleshooting of modern avionics upgrades in general aviation, business, and experimental aircraft.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex avionics installations, with primary emphasis on Garmin Aviation products including GTN™ Xi series, G3X Touch™, G500/G600, GI 275, G3000, and other integrated flight deck systems
  • Fabricate, route, and terminate custom wiring harnesses in accordance with engineering drawings, Garmin installation manuals, and FAA standards
  • Modify aircraft panels, structures, and systems to accommodate new avionics equipment
  • Conduct thorough testing, troubleshooting, and return-to-service procedures for installed systems
  • Collaborate with maintenance, inspection, and engineering teams to ensure projects are completed on time and to the highest quality standards
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including work orders, FAA forms, and installation records
  • Ensure all work complies with FAA regulations, manufacturer guidelines, and company safety protocols

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of hands-on avionics installation experience (certified and/or experimental aircraft)
  • Specialized expertise in Garmin avionics installations and troubleshooting (required)
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificate strongly preferred; Avionics-specific repair station experience a plus
  • Proven ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, installation manuals, and structural modification drawings
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in panel fabrication, cable routing, crimping, and continuity testing
  • Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass a background check and drug screening

The Sheet Metal Fabricator is responsible for performing structural repairs, modifications, and fabrication work on business jet aircraft in accordance with FAA regulations, OEM repair data, and company procedures. This position requires strong technical skills in metal forming, layout, and assembly, with a focus on precision workmanship and safety. The Sheet Metal Fabricator works closely with the Maintenance and Avionics teams to support scheduled inspections, structural projects, and aircraft refurbishments within the Part 145 Repair Station.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·         Perform fabrication, repair, and modification of aircraft sheet metal structures including skins, frames, bulkheads, fairings, brackets, and floor panels.

·         Layout, drill, form, bend, and assemble sheet metal components per engineering drawings and structural repair manuals (SRMs).

·         Accurately measure, cut, and fit parts using aircraft-grade aluminum, stainless steel, and composite materials.

·         Install fasteners such as rivets, hi-loks, and nutplates to OEM standards.

·         Perform corrosion removal and prevention treatments on affected areas.

·         Assist in removal and installation of aircraft panels, components, and structures during inspections or repairs.

·         Ensure all work is completed in accordance with FAA Part 145 and Part 43 regulations, and the Repair Station Quality Control Manual (RSQCM).

·         Document all work performed accurately and legibly on work orders and task cards.

·         Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure all tools and equipment are properly maintained and calibrated.

·         Collaborate with other departments to support major modification or refurbishment projects.

·         Promote safety awareness and report any hazards, damage, or non-conformities promptly.

·         Participate in ongoing training to maintain technical proficiency, regulatory compliance, and stay current with evolving avionics technologies and installation practices.

·         Assist other departments as workload permits.

Minimum Qualifications

·         High school diploma or equivalent.

·         FAA Airframe Certificate.

·         2–5 years of aircraft sheet metal or structural repair experience in a Part 145, OEM, or equivalent environment.

·         Strong understanding of aircraft structural materials, fasteners, and fabrication techniques.

·         Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and SRMs.

·         Proficiency with precision measuring instruments, sheet metal tools, and shop equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturer maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and other technical data.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.

Warehouse Duties

  • Pick orders and perform transactions in ERP system while maintaining accurate counts.
  • Package orders for shipment to customers in a timely manner.
  • Prepare shipping documentation for orders shipping to customers to ensure on time delivery.
  • Perform receiving process for incoming products/materials.
  • Perform spooling of cable.
  • Perform cycle counts and research ERP system to reconcile inventory discrepancies and make appropriate inventory adjustments.

Inspection Duties

  • Perform inspection by verifying product/material against drawings and vendor supplied documentation.
  • Work with Production Supervisor to coordinate the inspection of outgoing products to ensure consistent quality.
  • Coordinate with Quality Manager regarding any nonconformances or deficiencies found during the receiving, shipping, and inspection processes.
  • Ensure logs and documentation are being completed and maintained according to QMS standards.

Other Duties

  • Comply with all procedures and work instructions according to ISO and AS standards.
  • Maintain a clean FOD free environment by maintaining warehouse and inspection area/inventory utilizing 5S tools.
  • Use Lean tools to Identify areas for process improvement.

Perform installations, modifications and integration of various avionics systems and associated equipment in accordance with OEM installation manuals, drawings, and other approved data on 14 CFR part 23,25,27 and 29 aircraft

Complete assigned job cards and tasks within allotted time frame

Maintain required logs and records to include documenting the approved data for which the work was performed.

Install, program, update and troubleshoot radio communication and navigation systems, flight and engine instruments, inverters and flight control systems, using hand tools, multi-meters and soldering irons

Must be able to build, terminate and route wire harnesses in accordance with IPC 620, AC43.13 and manufacturers supplied data where applicable.

Lay out installation of aircraft assemblies and systems, following documentation such as drawings, manuals, and wiring diagrams

Properly care for and maintain the shop, equipment, and tools as assigned

Qualifications

General knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements

Must have personal set of common tools to perform work needed, preferably marked and shadowed

Knowledge of 14 CFR Part 21, 25, 27, 29, 65 and 145.

Preferred: Knowledge and Familiarity with STC, PMA, and other types of FAA approved data.

Preferred: Familiarity with military, SAE, NAS, material and electrical components as well as electronic component standards

Preferred: Knowledge of the use of avionics test sets and equipment

Preferred: Minimum 3 years’ experience in avionics installation and integration

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Working conditions will most often be in an aircraft hangar, which may at times be loud, busy, hot/cold.

As an avionics installation technician, you will be responsible for the project engineering, wiring harness fabrication, physical modification, and installation of modern avionics equipment and electrical systems into general aviation aircraft.

 

Avionics Technician Skills and Abilities:

  • Must know and understand manufacturer's installation specifications, such as the process manuals, or maintenance manuals related to specific job to be accomplished.
  • Must be able to fabricate and install all wiring harnesses, pneumatic pitot-static systems, antennas, and associated mechanical equipment per drawings.
  • Must have own basic hand tools, specialty tools will be provided for shared use among the shop.
  • Preferred experience with experimental and part 23 general aviation piston aircraft.
  • Familiar with installing and troubleshooting general aviation equipment from manufacturers such as: Garmin, Aspen, Dynon…
  • Must be able to read, write and understand the English language.

 

Avionics Technician Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience in an avionics shop or maintenance shop is required.
  • 2 years of installing and troubleshooting Garmin equipment is highly preferred.
  • An A&P certificate is highly preferred.
  • A student pilot certificate or more advanced is highly preferred.
