What You’ll Do

  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair avionics systems in GA aircraft (fixed-wing and rotorcraft)
  • Perform system diagnostics, wiring, and panel work
  • Assist with Garmin avionics installations and upgrades
  • Support pitot-static and transponder testing operations (91.411/91.413)
  • Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with FAA regulations
  • Work closely with maintenance team on integrated aircraft projects

Position Summary
This role involves a wide variety of avionics work performed both independently and as part of a team. Responsibilities vary by day and project.

Key Responsibilities
• Perform functional testing, inspection, repair, and maintenance of aircraft electrical and avionics systems (scheduled and drop-in)
• Troubleshoot avionics and electrical issues; Collins Aerospace Pro Line 21 experience required, with Honeywell APEX strongly preferred
• Perform 91.411 and 91.413 certifications on Pilatus PC-12, Citation, Challenger, and other aircraft
• Install and update avionics databases (Garmin G1000/G3000/GTN, Pro Line 21, Honeywell APEX)
• Conduct avionics testing during annual and phase inspections
• Test and troubleshoot components using circuit testers, oscilloscopes, and voltmeters
• Complete all required maintenance documentation accurately and timely
• Interpret flight test data to diagnose system malfunctions
• Assist with and perform avionics STC installations
• Occasional travel and overtime as needed

Qualifications
• Minimum two (2) years of avionics experience in private/corporate aviation
• A&P certificate preferred
• Strong working knowledge of FAA regulations and OEM specifications
• Ability to follow repair station manuals and safety procedures
• Strong communication and teamwork skills

• Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen

Installation of cable assemblies, wiring harnesses, avionics systems, instruments, and antennas in various general aviation aircraft. Must meet exact manufacturer specifications while paying close attention to aesthetics and detail.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • 1-3 years related experience preferred
  • Must exibit a focused attention to detail
  • Ability to read, write, and understand the English language
  • Ability to read and understand technical installation and maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams, drawings, schematics, etc.
  • Demonstrate proper use of basic hand tools: heat gun, hand crimpers, screwdrivers, solder pot, ruler and other machines such as pinning machines and automatic wire strippers
  • Ability to identify colors and utilize good hand/eye coordination
  • Must have basic computer knowledge/skills

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to identify antennas on various aircraft
  • Familiarity with biennials involving altimeters, transponders, encoders and static systems
  • Ability to properly connect/install various instruments and/or avionics in a variety of aircraft per manufacturers specifications
  • Ability to identify various components and circuits to facilitate proper installation
  • Fabricate cable assemblies and wiring harnesses using manufacturer instructions while ensuring high company standards are met
  • Apply heat shrink to completed assemblies
  • Crimp connectors to ends of assemblies
  • Complete all paperwork, checklists, forrms, and reports as required in accordance with company procedures and all applicable regulations and guidelines
  • Complete tasks on time with minimal supervision and exhibit good problem-solving skills
  • Responsible for clean-up and bench organization
  • Assist coworkers to complete assignments when necessary
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Mid-South Avionics, Inc. (MSA) is an FAA Part 145 Repair Station located at EKY (Mitchell Field Road) in Bessemer, Alabama. Founded in 1987, MSA specializes in avionics installations and avionics/electrical system maintenance and repair for General and Business Aviation aircraft.

MSA holds major avionics dealership authorizations including Garmin, Collins Aerospace, Universal Avionics, Genesys Aerosystems, and others. Our technicians work in a close-knit, team-oriented environment led by owner and lead technician Donovan Richards, who maintains exceptionally high standards for workmanship, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Position Responsibilities

  • Perform avionics installations including EFIS systems, engine monitors, autopilots, radio/navigation equipment, complete panel installations, and cabin entertainment systems.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled avionics and electrical system maintenance and repairs, including:
  • 91.411/91.413 certifications
  • RVSM certifications
  • Avionics-related Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA) inspections
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with FAA regulations, manufacturer instructions, and MSA’s Repair Station and Quality Manual (RSQM).
  • Accurately document all work performed using company MRO software.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience performing 91.411/91.413 and RVSM inspections, including pitot/static system troubleshooting and repair.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical wiring diagrams, manufacturer installation manuals, and aircraft maintenance manuals.
  • Familiarity with avionics test equipment such as air data test sets, transponder test sets, and NAV/COM test sets.
  • Familiarity with general aircraft tools and equipment including cable tensiometers, digital protractors, and torque wrenches.

Preferred Qualifications

  • FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant (A&P) certificate.
  • Previous Repairman’s Certificate experience (eligible to apply for a Repairman’s Certificate through MSA after 90 days).
  • Sheet metal experience, including autopilot servo bracket installations and instrument panel retrofits.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Machining experience and/or experience operating machining equipment.
