AVIONICS MANAGER

SUMMARY
The Avionics Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the successful development of department policies and procedures, preparing annual operating budgets for expenses, facilities, supplies, personnel, training, and capital expenses, and advising the executive team on aircraft status. The Avionics Supervisor will lead the team and oversee the installation and repair of avionics devices, assigning tasks for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and unexpected repairs per the priority set by the Hangar Manager. The Avionics Supervisor will be responsible for hiring, training, resource allocation, and developing and implementing best practices that support the BFS aircraft. The Avionics Supervisor will foster technical excellence and ensure requirements are successfully accomplished on schedule and within budget.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•Ensure Avionics-specific best practices, standards, and procedures.

•Provide selection and assignment of staffing to ensure equal employment opportunities in hiring and promotions.

•Coordination activities of avionics such as work assignments and directing of avionics staff subordinates for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, conformity, and modifications.

•Evaluation and verification of employee performance through thorough reviews of completed work assignments and techniques.

•Review BFS documentation relating to Avionics for compliance with policy and procedure, accuracy, and clarity.

•Monitor and design over schematic documentation to ensure distribution, cohesion, and accuracy.

•Identification of staff development and training needs of Avionics personnel.

•Work with Hangar Manager and other Manager-level employees to ensure on-time scheduling and timelines are being kept.

• Assurance that the department confers with federal, state, and local government laws and provides advisory services to governing bodies as necessary.

•Computer proficiency with Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Visio, OneDrive, and Office Suite.

•Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
•Two years’ experience in avionics as a technician, team leader, or supervisor, or a combination of experience and education.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

•Five years of experience within general aviation maintenance avionics operations.

•CH-47 Chinook experience is preferred.

•A minimum of Two years’ experience in managing subordinates or contractors.

•Must submit to and be capable of passing a required drug test.

•Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and tasks.

•Able and willing to travel to support aircraft.

•Willingness to work long and sometimes irregular hours.

•Have excellent interpersonal and management abilities.

•Working knowledge and ability to confirm proper compliance of all internal companyforms, logbook entry procedure, maintenance response forms, and FAA Forms as required.

•Full understanding of aviation safety standards and safe operating practices.

•Takes responsibility for individual and team actions, decisions, and results.

•Ability to work under minimal supervision, exercise independent judgment, discretions,and initiative.

•Proven ability to set priorities, communicate objectives and meet deadlines.

•Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.

•Ability to motivate others around safety initiatives.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

•A Bachelor’s degree in aviation management, Engineering, or equivalent field is strongly preferred. Will consider combination of equivalent work experience and education.

Partial Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Assemble electronic components, circuit boards, and wiring harnesses for avionics equipment according to technical schematics and assembly instructions.
• Perform high-quality soldering of components on PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards) with attention to detail and adherence to IPC-A-610 standards.
• Conduct functional testing, calibration, and troubleshooting of electronic assemblies to ensure compliance with performance and safety standards.
• Inspect assembled components for accuracy, identifying and correcting any defects to maintain quality standards.
• Ensure the quality of work performed meets FAA data and the manufacturers or industry’s specifications
• Maintain accurate records of assembly processes, test results, and inventory usage.
• Adhere to company and regulatory standards, including FAA, EASA, and CAA requirements for aviation components.

 Partial Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• An associate degree or certification in electronics or a related field is preferred.
• Current IPC-A-610 certification is preferred
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in electronic assembly, preferably in the aerospace or avionics industry
• Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and assembly instructions.

• Strong soldering skills and familiarity with hand and power tools
• Ability to perform basic electronic testing and troubleshooting.
• Basic computer skills

 Partial Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Working conditions for the Avionics Technician will often be an avionics/instrument shop laboratory environment.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and working with small components.
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
• Frequent use of hand tools and other repair equipment
• Use of chemicals for cleaning, lubricating and paint

Experienced Avionics Technician wanted

We're looking for an experienced avionics technician needed for growing repair station/avionics shop (5 years minimum experience required).   Must have experience installing and troubleshooting avionics in GA aircraft up to light business aircraft (King Air, Light Jet).   Garmin experience very highly desired.  Helicopter experience desired but not required.    Live and work in beautiful Newnan, GA, just 35 minutes south of Atlanta but with a small town feel.   Excellent pay (based on experience) and Benefits include 401K, health insurance, life insurance, gym membership.   Relocation assistance available.

About Billings Flying Service Billings Flying Service (BFS) is a solutions provider for the aviation industry, specializing in CH-47 aerial firefighting and heavy lift services. The BFS fleet of twelve CH-47Ds, one UH-60A, and a Bell 206B are capable of fighting wildfires by either bucket or tank.

About the Role

The Avionics Specialty Mechanic will be responsible for supporting avionics repairs and maintenance on multiple aircraft platforms under a Part 145 repair station. This position is based at Billings Flying Service in Billings, MT and reports to the Avionics supervisor. Travel will be required based on company needs. 

Job Duties

•Operate within a team environment with the highest level of ethics, integrity, safety and honesty

•Effectively communicate with team members in areas of technical data, quality conformity, and time management

•Demonstrate proficiency in reading and interpreting wiring diagrams, aircraft blueprints, and schematics

•Wire, install, test, and verify operation of avionics equipment and accessories; identify and  correct electronics failures using hand tools, test equipment, technical documents, and technical reference materials

Modify existing wire harnesses and new wire harness fabrication

•Assure that installations are done in accordance with procedures described in FAA Regulations, BFS standards of procedure, and manufacturer instructions

•Use sound judgment and technical aptitude to make good decisions regarding job sequence and techniques, troubleshooting and discrepancy resolution

•Be able to climb ladders, apply finger and hand dexterity in using hand tools, be able to move around the shop/hangar area and within aircraft continuously throughout the workday

Requirements
• Highly skilled avionics technician with a mechanical skill set or a mechanic with a high skill set in avionics

• Ability to work independently and make economic decisions based on overall company vision and direction

• Driver’s License

• High level of both verbal and written communication

• A&P License (Preferred)

About the Role:
We’re looking for experienced Avionics Technicians with FAA Airframe & Powerplant certifications to join our team under our 14 CFR Part 145 Certified Repair Station. Ideal candidates will have a solid background in avionics installation and maintenance, technical troubleshooting, and regulatory compliance to ensure continued aircraft airworthiness.

What You'll Do:

• Independently install, test, troubleshoot, and repair electrical/avionics systems, including:

  • Communications

  • Navigation

  • Radar

  • TCAS/Transponder

  • DME

  • Autopilot/Flight Director

  • Audio/ADF

  • Engine Monitoring

  • Other advanced avionics and electronics

• Integrate new systems with existing avionics or operate independently as required.

• Work with equipment from vendors such as Garmin, S-TEC, Avidyne, and EII.

• Perform in accordance with FAA regulations and OEM technical data.

• Maintain clear and professional communication with customers regarding job status and timelines.

• Support continued airworthiness of general aviation fixed-wing aircraft including Cessna, Beechcraft, and Piper.

What We’re Looking For:

• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

• FAA A&P Certification required.

• Proficient in English (spoken and written).

• Minimum of 2 years of avionics installation and maintenance experience on fixed-wing or rotorcraft under 14 CFR Part 135 operations.

• Hands-on experience with general aviation aircraft (Cessna, Beech, Piper preferred).

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.

• Able to work in confined spaces and extreme desert conditions.

• Physically capable of lifting up to 25 lbs, bending, climbing, and using ladders.

Avionics Technician

Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in General Aviation Avionics. Candidate must possess excellent troubleshooting skills.  Responsibilities include installation and testing of aircraft electronics equipment and systems. Regular duties consist of fabrication, termination and testing of avionics system wiring harness, and the disassembly and reassembly of aircraft interior and instrument panels.

Installation of new avionics equipment in general aviation and corporate aircraft, including King Air, Citation, Lear, Beechcraft, Cessna, etc.  Experience in these aircraft is beneficial.

Technicians must have a good understanding of and be able to read wiring diagrams and other installation technical data.

Experience in troubleshooting and installing avionics is required.

Must be capable and knowledgeable to perform 91.411 and 91.413 inspections.

Excellent computer skills are required. 

FAA Airframe/Powerplant License is a plus but not required.

Previous holder of Repairman Liscence is a plus but not required.
