Position Description:
The Avionics Lead will be responsible for managing a small crew, overseeing the assembly of wiring harnesses, read and interpret wiring schematics, perform electrical checkouts of various systems and be able to troubleshoot electrical issues.

Your Day-to-Day (Duties):

  • Utilize hand tools and computer-based job processing system to complete work
  • Troubleshoot software and/or hardware issues at bench assembly or on the aircraft
  • Oversee one or more employees in the assembly of wiring harnesses
  • Manage products of the Avionics department to suit needs of the program
  • Interface with Engineering personnel and provide solutions
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area

What You Bring to the Team (Requirements):

  • Authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer
  • Have Lead or Supervisory experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in aircraft electrical systems
  • Must have Avionics Experience
  • Knowledge of hand tools, fasteners and troubleshooting electrical systems
  • Must have a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to understand and interpret electrical engineering drawings
  • Follow directions and execute processes with minimal direction
  • Be team-oriented and have good communication skills
  • Must be able to think critically and safely
  • Be organized and follow procedures
  • Possess good management & problem-solving skills
  • Be highly motivated and adapt to changes
  • Must be able to read, speak and write English
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

Highly Desirable:

  • Experience with Garmin avionics systems preferred but not required
  • Associate or higher college degree preferred but not required

Job Summary/Basic Function:

This position assists the Program Manager in providing instructional and technical support for aviation and advanced avionics labs. Assists in ensuring that appropriate tools, parts, and equipment are available, well-maintained, and in operational order and that the labs are prepared and ready for projects as schedule dictates. Assist in maintaining appropriate student, staff, and facility safety. Works directly with students, assisting them with necessary support for the accomplishment of aviation and avionics projects and theory assignments. Reports to Associate Dean of Aviation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • FAA AMT Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant Ratings (or ability to obtain)
  • Mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn
  • Adapts in changing environments; able to be flexible in shifting projects or priorities to meet needs
  • Professional, ethical, and appropriate in all public and private interactions
  • Able to meet deadlines and manage stress well
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse groups to achieve goals
  • Comfortable and proficient in communicating and operating in a virtual environment
  • Ability to complete required training for specialty equipment
  • Can safely operate basic hand or power tools to create simple objects for use by the faculty (e.g. shipping crates, jigs, and cradles)

  • Experience with electrical systems, electronics, or avionics.

  • Aptitude for conceptualizing and implementing unusual or non-standard ideas

Physical Demands:

Work Hours:

Additional $174 per month premium pay for the 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. shift.

We are an established 145 service center located in Dayton, OH (KMGY), the birthplace of aviation, and are seeking experienced installation/service technicians.

Candidates must have experience with installation and troubleshooting Garmin, L3, S-Tec, Aspen, and Avidyne products along with experience pertaining to 24 month transponder and altimeter certifications. Job Description:

Garmin is looking for Avionics Installation Technicians! We’re seeking hard-working, hands-on technicians to install certified and experimental avionics systems in Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) part 23, 25, 27 and 29 aircraft at our hangar in New Century, KS. Our avionics installation technicians modify aircraft to accommodate panel and remote mounted avionics equipment. They also assist in development of documentation for new avionics system. Must be able to prepare new aircraft wiring harnesses in accordance with engineering drawings and installation documents, as well as troubleshoot existing avionics installation interconnects. We want to help make your passion for aircraft soar!

Essential functions include: 

  • Prepare new aircraft wiring harnesses in accordance with Engineering drawings and installation documents
  • Troubleshoot existing avionics installation interconnects
  • Use ramp test equipment to verify proper function of installed avionics
  • Assist Engineering in development and verification of new installation documentation
  • Compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements

Qualified candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED. Other requirements include:

  • Must possess experience substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description with installing avionics systems in piston, turbine and turbojet aircraft
  • Must possess demonstrated ability to read and interpret aircraft wiring diagrams and installations manuals relevant to Garmin’s business needs
  • Must possess understanding of commercial avionics interface standards and their installation relevant to Garmin’s business needs
  • Must possess experience, substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description, in implementation and modification of aircraft pitot-static systems 

A FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic certificate, a FAA Inspection Authorization, experience using desktop computer systems and experience producing and modifying drawings using AutoCAD is highly preferred!
