Avionics and Component - Aircraft Maintenance Technicians

Location – Atlanta, GA

Avionic Maintenance Technicians provide critical technical support to Delta's fleet and perform inspections, tests and repairs on aircraft electronic components in a bench repair environment. Avionics Maintenance Technicians maintain aircraft components and avionics systems according to Delta and FAA specifications; perform inspections during assembly of parts and after repair or installation of components; document maintenance procedures including component damage, origin, and condition; and practice safety conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures. Responsibilities also include performing appropriate computer functions and documentation to ensure maintenance records, part tracking and costs are accurately recorded.   

Summary of responsibilities (not comprehensive of all tasks) -

  • Performs all work activities in accordance with established laws, regulations, standards, safety protocols, and procedures to ensure safety of self and others.  
  • Inspects aircraft or aircraft components, including landing gear, hydraulic systems, tires, and engines for damage, defects, corrosion, or other wear to ensure airworthiness.   
  • Recommends replacement, repair, or modification of aircraft equipment based on inspection.  
  • Reports issues, malfunctions, unusual wear, or damage to appropriate personnel, as required.  
  • Installs, removes, or modifies aircraft structures, systems, or components, following drawings, schematics, charts, engineering orders, and technical publications.  
  • Repairs worn, defective, or damaged parts or components (e.g., damaged gaskets, lines and couplings, cables, and pulleys), using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.   
  • Inspects completed work to certify that maintenance adheres to standards and procedures, and that aircraft are ready for operation.   
  • Interprets discrepancies or logs (written or verbal) to understand history and nature of issue, to troubleshoot issue, and to identify required next steps (e.g., fix, defer, replace).   
  • Researches, reads, and interprets technical manuals and guidelines to perform inspections, installations, repairs, or other work activities.   
  • Reviews maintenance records to determine if service and maintenance checks, repairs, and overhauls were performed at prescribed intervals.   
  • Maintains repair logs, documenting all preventative and corrective aircraft maintenance activities.   
  • Serves as a technical expert or mentor by providing advice and corrective recommendations to others.  
  • Uses computers, computer systems, and other technology to enter, document, access, receive, or communicate information.

The minimum starting hourly rate for this position is $34.31 with a potential maximum hourly rate of $34.31. The ability to reach the maximum hourly rate is dependent upon several other offered premiums (Examples would include but not limited to - Airframe and Powerplant license, Shift differential, Station location differential, Line Maintenance differential, Skill differential).

Minimum Qualifications -

  • Two years of bench level avionics/electronics component repair experience

OR a minimum of 17mths of academic training specializing in

  • avionics/electronic component repair
  • OR have CETa certification from The Electronics Technicians Association
  • OR have completed Electronics Program at a Delta approved learning institution
  • Where permitted by applicable law, must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by date of hire to be considered for U.S.-based job, if not currently employed by Delta Air Lines, Inc.
  • Demonstrates that privacy is a priority when handling personal data

  • FCC license is preferred but not required

Installation of avionics in various aircraft. We specialize in complete Garmin installations in Cessna 208/208B Caravans, Cessna Conquest II and other multi-engine aircraft. Position Summary

The Avionics Technician is responsible for repair, maintenance, and installation of aircraft avionics for the Maintenance Department of Chicago Jet Group, LLC (hereafter referred to as CJG).

As a member of the Maintenance Department, this individual contributor role performs all functions in the repair and maintenance of aircraft and aircraft avionics, which includes dismantling, repairing, assembly, and construction of electrical and electronic devices.

Additionally, this role will also, as a part of the avionics installation team, be responsible for installation of avionics in accordance with approved type design from the Engineering and Certification Department.

Job Responsibilities

Key duties of an Avionics Technician are:

  • Perform all phases of repair, maintenance or modification on aircraft electrical and avionics systems or component parts. Performs inspection, operational checks, ground handling, servicing, and the exchange or replacement of components as required.
  • Installs avionics equipment and EWIS and performs operational checks, and post modification testing.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and avionics systems on aircraft.
  • Perform all work in a prompt timely manner, adhering to all attendance reliability policies and procedures.
  • Exercise the authority of an Airman Certificate (Repairman or Airframe and/or Powerplant) in signing the corrective action in maintenance documents or aircraft maintenance log for airworthiness release or return to service, ensuring such is in accordance with CJG policies and procedures.
  • Act as cockpit coordinator, when assigned, to ensure safe operation of aircraft systems (e.g., flight controls, electrical, landing gear) from the flight deck.
  • Ensure that a clean, safe, and orderly work area is maintained at all times. Ensure that good housekeeping practices are performed at all times.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled inspection, maintenance, repair and modification on aircraft electrical and avionics systems and in accordance with the applicable Federal Air Regulations (FARs) and the Repair Station Quality Manual (RSQM)
  • Fabricate and install aircraft wiring to engineering design specifications, including terminations of wire harnesses/bundles and connection of components.
  • Become familiar with and follow the requirements of this RSQM, Federal Aviation Regulations, Airworthiness Directives, Advisory Circular, manufacturer’s service bulletins and any other required references to perform their assigned work.
  • Never begin any maintenance unless in possession of the proper, current and applicable approved or acceptable data.
  • Ensure the work area is kept to the highest standards of safety, compliant at all times, enforcing regulations and practices to avoid accidents.
  • Perform the proper tagging of Aircraft components, parts and panels appropriately stored (including racks by aircraft).
  • Perform documentation procedures and sign-offs in accordance with Repair Station Manual and respective task requirements.
  • Ensure that tools and equipment are correctly used and handled for both safety and to reduce breakages, wear and tear.
  • Ensure tooling, GSE and ground equipment is returned to its proper storage area following use.

Under the direct supervision of the Dean of Advances Manufacturing, Industrial Technology and Computer Science, this instructor will develop curriculum, teach lecture and laboratory courses within the Avionics Electronics Technician Program. Courses may include a variety of delivery methods including on-campus, live virtual learning and on-line. Education/Experience:

The successful candidate will have:

  1. A minimum of an associate’s degree and/or at least three years’ experience with a minimum of 6,000 hours of training, and/or recent and relevant experience in electronics and aviation maintenance. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  2. College level teaching experience is preferred.
  3. Possession of or the ability to obtain a National Center for Aerospace & Transportation Technologies (NCATT) Aircraft Electronics Technician (AET) certification and/or FCC General Radio Operators license required.

This work requires experience and proficiency in recovering, foam re-building, patterning and sewing as they relate to refurbishment of seats, divans, headliners, dado panels, and other interior components. A good understanding of burn regulations, maintenance manuals, drawings and engineering orders is required.

Job Duties:

  • Creates custom seat patterns and foam for a variety of aircraft and seat models
  • Sews and covers seats and interior panels using high-end leathers and fabrics
  • Cuts foam to conform to seat specifications
  • Cuts and fits, surges and binds carpets within the aircraft as required
  • Assist team members with removal and installation of interior components of the aircraft
  • Coordinates, or assists with the coordination of, vendor services for plating, flame treatment, placards, fabrications etc.
  • Orders consumables and raw materials in Corridor as required and/or directed
  • Assist with quotations and project planning
  • Performs other duties as required

Job Requirements:

  • Min 5 years’ experience in Aviation upholstery
  • Prefer one years’ experience leading projects
  • Read and interpret manuals, diagrams and work orders
  • Detail oriented with the ability to follow instructions
  • Strong ability to multi task effectively
  • Ability to work individually, with a healthy sense of urgency to provide a quality product
  • Must be able to wear a respirator or air hood, and work in a confined environment

Aviation Paint & Finish Technician

Job Summary

The Paint & Finish Technician II applies pre-mixed and blended paint or coating to well-prepared interior and exterior aircraft parts. Applies wood finishes such as stains and high-build clear topcoats to newly refurbished woodwork; performs touch-up and repair of interior and exterior paint work as well as cabinetry; and mechanically polishes paint, wood and exterior Brite-work as required.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Mixes and applies paints and stains to interior and exterior components
  • Mixes polyester and clear topcoat to wood cabinetry
  • Sands and masks surface areas on aircraft or woodwork for painting and finish applications
  • Constructs temporary paint booths using PVC pipe structure, plastic, and ventilation system
  • Touches up interior woodwork and finish
  • Polishes Brite-work
  • Assists team members with other functions within the Interiors Department through cross training of other Interior Department functions
  • Ensures proper care of customer property at all phases of work
  • Accurately completes required paperwork and work order details in Corridor on a consistent and timely basis
  • Meets or beats flat rates for most of his/her assigned tasks
  • Utilizes support equipment in a safe manner to accomplish work tasks

Position Title: Senior Avionics Technician
Position Reports to: General Manager
Location: Scappoose Airport (KSPB), Scappoose, Oregon

Initial Salary: Competitive and commensurate with candidate experience and demonstrated knowledge level. 

Job Summary:  In this position, you will install communication & navigation equipment, autopilots and other avionics in aircraft ranging from small single-engine private aircraft to corporate jets.  Job functions include:

  • Reading wiring diagrams and manufacturer data to independently and efficiently install, configure and test avionics in aircraft.
  • Using CAD software to design custom instrument panels tailored to specific customer needs and requirements.
  • Using CAD software to draw wiring diagrams for avionics installations.
  • Fabricating brackets and panels using sheet metal tools and techniques.
  • Supervising apprentice technicians in training.

Essential Job Skills:

  • Excellent airframe sheet metal skills including bending, drilling, riveting, prepping and painting aluminum alloy sheet metal.
  • Use of typical hand, pneumatic and power tools like drills, grinders, etc.; and large shop equipment like brakes, shears, drill presses, bandsaws, etc.
  • Hi-reliability wiring techniques including crimping and soldering.
  • Experience in using electronics test equipment like digital multimeters, pitot-static test sets, and transponder and radio test equipment.
  • Superior computer fluency, and familiarity with Microsoft tools like Excel and Word.
  • Experience with schematic and wiring CAD software a plus.
  • Experience with CAD software for mechanical design a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain and troubleshoot malfunctions of aircraft avionics and electrical system components, including radios, ground- and GPS-based navigators, transponders (including ADS-B equipment), weather radar, autopilots, audio distribution systems, and accessories in accordance with manufacturer data.
  • Work on small single-engine and light twin aircraft, and light jets by manufacturers including Piper, Cessna, Beech, Cirrus, Lear and other general aviation & corporate aircraft.
  • Supervise and train apprentice technicians.
  • Understand and comply with relevant FAA regulations and guidelines.
  • Complete all checklists, forms, and reports as required in accordance with company and FAA regulations and guidelines
  • Follow and comply with all safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, safe shop environment.

Required Certifications/Qualifications:

Candidates must have at least ONE of the following certifications:

  • FAA Airframe or A&P Mechanic certificate (FAA Inspection Authorization a plus); or
  • AET certificate with at least 2 additional endorsements; or
  • Previous holder of a Repairman Certificate with a prior employer

Required Education/Experience

The successful candidate will have at least ONE of the following:

  • Degree or certificate from an accredited two (2) year college, university or technical school in avionics maintenance or electronics; or
  • Documented avionics experience in the service of the armed forces; or
  • The equivalent of five years' experience installing avionics in the field

In addition, all of the following are REQUIRED:

  • Experience working at an FAA Part 145 repair station or Part 135 operation, or military equivalent.
  • Ability to pass an FAA/DOT drug test, and abstain from all prohibited drug use during your employment.
  • Deep familiarity with relevant FAA regulations including 14 CFR parts 43 and 145, and an understanding of airworthiness and return-to-service procedures.
  • Experience completing documentation typical in a repair station setting.
  • Past experience supervising and training others in the job environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken, and a demonstrated ability to read and understand aircraft maintenance documents, and to take detailed notes online.

Familiarity with avionics equipment from Garmin, Avidyne, PS Engineering, S-TEC, Bendix/King and legacy brands like Narco and Terra a huge plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to sit, walk, climb, and lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be comfortable working in small spaces, extreme temperatures, heights above six feet, and tolerating the noise of an airport and a shop environment.  Most maintenance is performed in a climate-controlled hangar, but there will be times when work must be performed on the ramp.

Work Environment:

  • Standard work day is four days a week, 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with seasonal variations. Overtime and work-away occasionally required.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

The Program Manager working conditions usually consist of an office environment, but the designated missions of Southeast Aerospace may sometimes take managers to non-standard workplace locations.

The Program Manager works within a standard work week, but may be required to work some evening shifts and weekends to monitor program activities. There are no particular strenuous physical requirements for the Program Manager position; however certain environmental conditions that are associated with an office workspace may elevate certain sensory demands. These demands may range from eyestrain from computers for long periods of time to any noise and activity disturbances produced from an active office environment.
