We are seeking a full-time EMC Engineering Technician in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for creating an integrated avionics systems to simulate aircraft installation to perform EMC testing and monitor/document system performance.

Essential Functions

  • Execute plan made by an engineer/more experienced technician, work is closely supervised by an engineer or more experienced technician, and follow specific, detailed instructions
  • Perform/support testing at an outside facility or Olathe as directed by Engineer or another Technician onsite
  • Create simple plans/reports or provide contribution to larger complex plans/reports
  • Communicate status of work clearly providing visibility to Engineer or more experienced technician
  • Fill out component or equipment P.O.s
  • Work with factory or Engineering to ATE equipment and document any findings
  • Be flexible and adjust to fix problems that might arise and work through problems as a team
  • Be flexible to change direction and accept different assignments that may be driven by changes in Garmin priorities
  • Ability to construct setups, create qualification plans and reports, and execute tests for small system/product with assistance
  • Able to work as part of a team to assist in the setup, run, and completion of test plans and reports for a large, integrated system
  • Able to read and follow schematics and layout drawings to identify solder and assembly problems and correct problems independently or with assistance
  • Understand system interconnects and wiring practices, able to diagnose and correct connection and wiring problems, and able to create system wiring diagrams with assistance
  • Able to prepare and execute electrical rework and software updates on lab prototypes
  • Track lab equipment and coordinate with Cal lab
  • Author test set up documents with some supervision

Basic Qualifications

  • 2 year Electronics/Electrical Technology degree OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Capable of applying test processes and methods to verify design and products performance
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and works with a sense of urgency
  • Understands importance of thoroughly documenting work in an organized manner and understands Garmin’s Mission Statement and Quality Policy
  • Able to work professionally/in a positive respectful manner with all other Garmin associates and able to work in a collaborative team environment to achieve goals
  • Be proactive to help others in the group during any spare bandwidth
  • Willing and able to share information and ideas freely and positively
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Word to be able to write reports
  • Ability to perform debugging with supervision
  • Can execute simple (ex. Appliance level) product test plans and provide detailed test reports
  • Familiarity with WORD. XL and VISIO/AutoCAD
  • Possess a general understanding of Garmin Integrated Flight Deck (GIFD) including the general role that each product has in the GIFD
  • Must possess the ability to: bend, twist and lift up to 50 lbs. and team lift up to 100 lbs. while using safe lifting techniques; push/pull test equipment on wheeled, moveable racks of up to 400 lbs.; stand for extended periods of time, climb and utilize ladders to connect cables; and walk long distances throughout the facility

Position Title: Aviation Quality Inspector

Position Reports to: Chief Inspector

Primary Operational Objectives:

The Aviation Quality Inspector Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all aircraft maintenance is accomplished in accordance with the Repair Station/Quality Control Manual and current Federal Aviation Regulations.  They will be actively engaged with the in-process inspection and return to service of aircraft in maintenance.  In addition, the QA Inspector will assist in the continual process improvement of the maintenance department by identifying risks and participating in determining and implementing processes and procedures to mitigate risk and promote a safe working environment.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Upon A/C arrival, obtain associated documentation, aircraft logbooks, flight logs, and document receipt
  • Oversee aircraft weighing procedures in accordance with manufacturers recommended practices and procedures
  • Assist with coordinating inspection activities in compliance with computer tracking maintenance programs (i.e., CAMP, FLIGHTDOCS, M-TRAX, SIERRA TRAX)
  • Assist with opening work orders and assembling work packages based off customer needs
  • Perform inspections of Required Inspection Items (RII)
  • Final engine runs, flight control surface balancing and rigging, final OK to close, etc.
  • Determine technical data on all articles overhauled or repaired by the repair station are secured and kept current with latest revisions

  • Perform walk around inspection of aircraft for release from maintenance
  • Perform return to service (RTS) process and ensure aircraft meets all airworthiness requirements prior to returning to service
  • Responsible to follow and comply with all safety rules and regulations
  • Provide data to customers as requested
  • Collaborate with other departments, team members, and customers in a positive and professional manner
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license required
  • 4+ Years of relevant inspection experience preferred 
  • Current Inspection Authorization (IA) preferred
  • Post-Secondary education is preferred, Associates degree or higher
  • Experience and knowledge of aircraft/engine maintenance records and logbooks required
  • Working knowledge of (FAA regulations, AD’s, SB’s, TCDS, etc.)
  • Knowledge of FAA certification processes, including parts, repair processes, drawings, and all applicable compliance requirements
  • Ability to maintain high quality standards and attention to detail while focusing on utilization and efficiency standards
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage own work in a fast-paced environment and solve problems effectively and creatively.

Duties

The RCMP Air Services is a national program providing airborne law enforcement consisting of the policy centre (Air Services Branch) in Ottawa at National Headquarters and divisional air sections. Air Services has 35 aircraft (mix of fixed- and rotary-wing) at 19 air sections strategically located across the country. Air Services employs 190 employees including Pilots, Aircraft Maintenance Engineers, Flight Coordinators and Tactical Flight Officers.

Air Services is looking for Avionics Technicians (AME-E) for positions in Ottawa to perform maintenance on its fleet of aircraft. The Avionics Technicians report to the Avionics Manager and her/his duties include:
- Performing the scheduled and unscheduled avionics and mission systems related maintenance, inspection and repair of the fixed- and/or rotary-wing aircraft;
- Performing avionics installation;
- Completing all aircraft technical records and maintenance releases;
- Other duties related to the position

Work environment

The position is located at the Ottawa/Macdonald-Cartier International Airport. The position requires an in-person presence and hybrid work will not be an option.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one position in Ottawa (Ontario) on an indeterminate basis, with a linguistic profile of English Essential and a Top Secret security clearance.

A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the RCMP across Canada on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

This job includes varying amounts of parts replacement or repair, electrical troubleshooting, and general mechanical applications. Supervision of the team and direction of project flow will be a primary function. Work order processing, logbook, entries, required FAA forms and pricing to the customers are routine duties. Will be required to work independently and lead multiple projects. Will have direct customer contact. This position will be supporting a variety of airframe manufacturers.  

Job Duties/Responsibilities include but not limited to: 

  • Troubleshoots and repairs existing systems.

    Qualifications/Job Requirements 

    • 5-year prior experience on aircraft avionics maintenance installations preferred. 

    • 3-year prior Garmin installation experience 

    • Experience in supervision of other technicians. 

    • FAA paperwork, work order and billing process experience. 

    • Electronics training classes. 

    • Avionics system factory training required. 

    • FCC License preferred. 

    • A&P License Preferred 

    • Garmin avionics experience preferred. 

    • Corridor maintenance software experience preferred. 

    • Post-secondary education or training in aircraft maintenance or equivalent combination of education, training, or experience. 

    • Demonstrated use of hand tools and equipment. 

    • Minimum 18 years of age.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Quality Manager for the Repair Station will provide expertise in the areas of Quality Assurance for requirements from FAA Part 145 and EASA. The Quality Manager will ensure effective processes are established to comply with the various requirements applicable to the repair station. The Quality Manager will ensure organization preparedness for regulatory and customer audits.

JOB CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Supervises the QA area ensuring that business Quality objectives are being met, i.e. Evaluation turn times, assist with Final inspection and Paperwork Completion.
  • Ensure compliance to FAA Part 145, EASA-145 requirements & Quality Management System.
  • Ensures that all inspectors are following the requirements specified by the FAA regulations, SOP’s, and Repair Station / Quality Control Manual.
  • Make certain that all employees performing Safety Sensitive work are included in the DOT anti-Drug and Alcohol Program.
  • Maintains the repair station roster and work histories as required by FAA regulations.
  • Determines that the requested maintenance, preventive maintenance, or alteration can be accomplished within the applicable data despite any other damage or discrepancies noted.
  • Ensures all incoming, hidden damage, preliminary, in-process, and final inspections are performed in accordance with the procedures set forth in the Repair Station / Quality Control Manual.
  • Maintain calibrations record and checks are kept current, and the calibrations are performed in accordance with the Repair Station / Quality Control Manual.
  • Submit failures, malfunctions, or defects in accordance with the Repair Station / Quality Control Manual and Federal Aviation Regulations.
  • Act as the primary contact for issues that may arise related to Technical Data, Shelf Life, Calibrated Tooling, and Scrap Parts.
  • Maintain the repair station’s training program to ensure all training needs are met.
  • Performs the repair station’s “self-evaluation” to determine if an article can be added to the Capability List, along with the repair station “Self-Audit” that is required per the Repair Station / Quality Assurance Manual.
  • Ensure the availability and currency of the technical information required to perform work whenever a new article is introduced for maintenance, preventive maintenance, or alteration.
  • Performing other duties and maintaining other responsibilities as directed or required.
  • Maintain Repair Station Quality Manuals and Training Program.
  • Oversee Repair Station Anti-Drug and Alcohol program.
  • Maintain access to Customer Technical document portals.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between the repair station and the FAA.

Other responsibilities as assigned: 

  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance
  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance is required.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: 

Education: Relevant quality experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations

Years’ Experience: 10+ years of experience in FAA Part 145 Repair Station preferred

Skills Required:

  • Must have working Knowledge of FAA 14 CFR Parts 21, 39, 43, 65, 91, 121, 135, and 145.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a FAA Repairmen certificate.

The Avionics Installer is responsible for performing routine maintenance and major inspections on aircraft and engines. Trouble-shooting, repair, and modification of aircraft components and engines are accomplished by this position. Maintenance experience with Falcon, Lear, Challenger, Embraer, Cessna and/or Hawker airframes is strongly preferred.
 

  • Tests, installs, and/or repairs electrical/avionics equipment and systems, including systems and controls contained in the flight compartment. Routes wire throughout aircraft tying into both new and factory installed wire bundles, and may assist in functional check-out and troubleshooting of all wiring systems.  Performs less difficult assignments without assistance or supervision.  Care and precision must be exercised in order to ensure quality installations, on-time deliveries, and satisfied customers. 
  • Installs, aligns, and wires electrical and electronic components such as instruments, sensors, radio communications, antennas, J-boxes, lights, etc.
  • Determines the best location and method for installing and removing electronic equipment and systems by applying general trade practices and adhering to prints originated by Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, various mod centers (STC’s), and many aircraft manufacturers’ wiring diagrams.
  • Fabricates wiring harnesses; solders connector plugs; strips and hand lugs wiring; identifies wiring and fabricates and installs surface control indicating systems; performs terminal splicing; wires junction boxes; routes wiring and conduit; and performs any other electrical bench or installation work as necessary to complete the electrical repair or modification of the aircraft.
  • Performs continuity checks and may assist in the functional check-out of complete aircraft systems.
  • Assists in performing more complex electrical work as required.  May assist in troubleshooting, locating, and correcting wiring difficulties.
  • Operates hand and power tools.  May operate electrical test equipment.  Must be familiar with color coding and symbols used in identifying hardware and components.
  • Must have knowledge of power sources and bonding and grounding techniques.
  • Adheres to shop standards, various manufacturers’ standards and practices and has knowledge of various federal and military standards including FAA Advisory Circulars.
  • Documents all work accomplished (a.k.a. sign-off) in a clear, concise and accurate manner.
  • Works fair share of overtime and travels to customer locations or other Standard Aero facilities as required.
  • Responsible for knowing, understanding, following, promoting and continuously improving company policies and procedures.
  • Observes all safety, environmental and general housekeeping rules and policies.
  • May perform other duties as required by the department.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
