SUMMARY:
Because of the confusion related to deferring repair or replacement of inoperable equipment, the Aircraft Electronics Association recently asked the Federal Aviation Administration for clarification.
As clarified by the FAA, inoperable instruments and equipment deferred under the specific provision of 14 CFR 91.213 (d) may be deferred indefinitely, provided the equipment and its affect on airworthiness is inspected at each required inspection.
